ABOUT Emirates Airline

Carnival organizers are pleased to announce that arrangements have been finalised with Emirates to be the official preferred partner airline for the 2010 Cape Town Carnival.

As part of this new relationship Emirates has agreed to offer teams special discounts on airfares to and from Cape Town (economy and business class). This offer applies between all Emirates online points and Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

As part of this special offer stopovers will be allowed in both directions.

Teams may also be interested to know that Emirates has recently increased its checked baggage allowance by 10kg in all cabins. For example economy class passengers are now entitled to 30kg which is 10kg above the industry standard and especially attractive for rugby teams travelling with playing gear, gifts etc.

The Emirates extensive worldwide network makes the airline ideal for Vintage Rugby teams. The airline operates over 6 continents serving over 100 destinations in 60 countries in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, West Asia, the Far East, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas.

Emirates operates one daily service between Dubai and Cape Town, three daily flights between Dubai and Johannesburg and starting 01Oct 09 one daily flight between Dubai and Durban – with convenient connections through its Dubai hub from Australia, New Zealand, USA/ Canada, Brazil as well as 22 points throughout the UK & Europe.

Emirates is no stranger to sports either. With its long-standing commitment to sport sponsorships, Dubai-based Emirates Airline has been involved with a wide range of sporting events and teams around the world for over 20 years.

Emirates has a strong affiliation with rugby and was recently announced as the Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2011.

Other rugby tournaments that the airline has sponsored include four IRB Sevens World Series in Dubai, South Africa, London and Edinburgh. Emirates was also shirt sponsors of the England and Samoa sevens teams. More recently, the airline was recently confirmed as Principal Partner of Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009, which will take place in Dubai and Emirates’ newly built sporting venue, ‘The Sevens’.

Emirates also sponsor the IRB referees and match officials, and Emirates Western Force in Australia.

The Cape Carnival organizers need to stress that although the relationship with Emirates as the preferred airline for the 2010 Carnival provides very attractive travel options for teams making the trip to South Africa next year – there is no compulsion to use the airline and if they are unable to provide the most attractive quote then teams are free to make alternate airline arrangements. Emirates do however expect to be given the opportunity to quote for all teams travelling to the Cape Carnival.

How will it operate?

Emirates will provide a special discount of 10% off published market fares for group and FIT travel directly associated with the 2010 World Vintage Rugby Carnival.

All team requests will be subject to seat availability at the time of booking.

Vintage Rugby will provide team details to Emirates and their local sales team will make contact with team leaders to discuss travel plans, and provide a quote/reservation and advice to teams about the deposit/payment schedule and terms and conditions that apply to this special offer. Note: To qualify for this discount team details have to be provided to Emirates via the Vintage Rugby office – teams who go direct will not have access to the discount, so even if teams are still considering the possibility of coming to Cape Town it is important that they advise the Vintage Rugby office now so that initial contact can be made to discuss costs/itineraries. Flights for August 2010 will be available for booking in September 2009 which is not very far away so timing is essential for the all important preliminary discussions.

Teams will eventually be invoiced directly by the Emirates office concerned.
